Manual Circumlaryngeal Therapy

What is it?

When voice problems persist or speaking and singing feel tiring, there is often excessive tension in the muscles surrounding the larynx (voice box). In such cases, Manual Circumlaryngeal Therapy (MCT) can be a valuable treatment approach.
MCT is a hands-on technique in which the muscles around the larynx are gently stretched and mobilized through specific movements. This helps reduce muscle tension and makes it easier to use the voice in a healthy way or to perform vocal exercises effectively.

Why is it useful?

When the muscles around the larynx hold too much tension, this can lead to symptoms such as hoarseness, voice loss, difficulty reaching high or low pitches, a heavy or fatigued voice, a globus sensation (a lump in the throat), throat pain, or general difficulty when speaking or singing. By mobilizing these muscles through MCT, it becomes easier to (re)gain healthy voice use.

In addition, we always explore the underlying causes of the tension to prevent the symptoms from returning. Sometimes the cause lies in inefficient voice use, but it can also result from an imbalance between voice load and vocal capacity—such as overuse of the voice or stress.
